New Fees proposed for horse events (shows and gymkhanas) from Horse Council BC

Hi, Outriders and Friends - At our last club meeting I was asked to advise you of a new fee that will be imposed on horse shows that want to hold qualifiers for the WH Provincial Championship show. Instead of the $25.00 flat fee the club used to pay, we will now be assessed $3.50 for each entry in our show, regardless of whether that person (horse/rider combination) is trying to qualify for the championship. This will affect riders, drivers and gymkhana competitors. It has come as a total surprise to show committees province-wide (including ours) who have their 2010 programs and prize lists either ready to print or in some cases already posted on the web. There will be a meeting this coming Friday at the HCBC office to discuss this. Carolyn Dobbs would like input from anyone this impacts so that she can pass on our concerns and suggestions on how to deal with this. Some suggestions that have already made are: not to hold WH qualifiers anymore (unfortunately this will likely affect our entries), to pay a $35 flat fee for qualifying shows and/or only charge the $3.50 fee to those competitors trying to qualify. HCBC has also created a new rule book that we will be required to use instead of the EC rule book. This places restrictions on who we can hire for judges as well. As you can see this has opened up a huge can of worms which we are forced to deal with as our show season is only 2 months away. The new rule book is posted on the HCBC website. There may be more info about the fees on the website too although I can't tell you where to look. If anyone has ideas or suggestions as to how our club should deal with this please pass them on to Carolyn at summitph@hotmail.com before Friday, March 5th. Also, a reminder - to be eligible the for Early Bird membership fee discount, applications must be received by March 31. Don't forget the 'Code of Conduct' form for members who have not signed one in the past and a copy of your HCBC membership card(s).

What Happened in 2008?

Annual Awards Banquet and Annual General Meeting

The annual banquet was held on Saturday, November 29th at the Lodge behind the Red Coach Inn. Please click here for a list of the awards winners! Congratulations to all members who took home some tidy loot! Kudos to all those companies and people who donated prizes and awards to make all of this happen.

Here's a few photographs from the banquet

Congratulations, ladies!___Aren't those meant for appendages that contact the ground?___Look at the loot on this table! That's ALOT of trophies!

Barn Raising on September 28th

Thanks to the efforts of several dedicated members, the Outriders now have a barn on the grounds! Ron Szigety drove down to Ladner to pick up the barn on Saturday, and the gang showed up on Sunday for the official "barn raising"! Thanks, Carolyn for taking photographs during the day. The barn does not yet have a roof on, but at least the walls are up and it looks great! Take a boo for yourself!

Unloading the trailer...____Putting up the walls

Lots of supervisory assistance!____Viola! The finished product (roof is pending).

Outrider members winning at other horse shows!

Congratulations to Outriders members, Tammie, Jessie and Tristianna on their successful competitions at the 2007 Western Heritage and General Performance Provincial Championships! For anyone who has competed at this level, they know how much these winnings mean! It is tons of hard work to win at the provincial level! Well done, ladies!

We ALWAYS need new members!

The 100 Mile and District Outriders club is only as good as its membership. We are sadly lacking volunteers to help with any of our many events and work bees. Please the club if you are interested in helping out, or come to the next Outriders meeting. They are held the first or sometimes second Tuesday of each month, 5:30 p.m. at Peter Skene Ogden High School in 100 Mile House (while school is in session - during the summer, the new location will be announced later).
